Parents protest illegal fees as Commissioner suspends school HeadmistressHundred of parents of Pupils of Okotie Eboh Primary school 1, Sapele in Delta State today protested over illegal collection of fees and the school dilapidated Structure, calling on the state government to come to their aid and help rehabilitate the school.


The dilapidated State of the school structure came to limelight after a 7 year old girl, Success Adego video complaining of being driven from school over school fees in a public school the government said should be free.


The Parents who storm the school gate as early as 7am at Urban area, Ikomi road extension  in Sapele complained about illegal fee ranging from school, examination and other illegal fee  they claim has become regular with not only Okotie Eboh Primary but other schools in the vicinity.


Joy Awala, who claim to have three children in the school said she was tired of the illegal collections and demand the state government to put an end to it “We go pay for PTA, pay for exam fee, pay for school fees, pay pay too much we don tire” she lamented in Pidgin english.


Miruo Victoria, who also spoke to Advocate said “I enrolled my two children here. I will be at home and they will send them home to bring shovel to pack excreta. The classes are very tight. We have more than 100 pupils in one class. They always send the children home because of all sort of illegal fees Zainab Osuaso, who said her two children passed out from the school said when they were leaving, she was ask to pay for the school roofing before she collected her children result sheet “we did not see any school roof been changed, we are tired” she said.


Meanwhile the Delta State Commissioner of Basic Education, Mr Chinedu Ebie has suspended the Head Mistress of Okotie Eboh Primary School in Sapele, Mrs Veronica Igbive after her explanation was said to have been unsatisfactory after the Commissioner visited the school today on what he , the Commissioner said was a fact finding mission, after Success Adego  ‘if dem say dem stubborn, I go tell dem say, I stubborn pass dem’ video went viral on the internet.


“We are suspending her till the conclusion of the investigations, because we are giving her a fair right of hearing. After that we know what to do, but all I know is that education is free in Delta State”


The Commissioner also said the contract for the renovation of the two schools, Okotie Eboh Primary School 1 & 2 has been awarded and arrangements are been made to see how pupils of the school will be relocated till these schools are completed.
