A 44 year old, founder of Miracle Working God ministry in Sapele, Delta State, Prophet Patrick Eyaefe whose bride died on Sunday 30th of March, 2019 from snake bite hours after they were joined in holy matrimony at a church in the crudas road area of the town, said it was obvious his wife died out of neglect by a medical clinic in town, Divine Care Hospital, Sapele, Delta State.
But in a swift reaction, Dr John Akwara, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital has denied that the hospital was cupable in the demise of Mrs Patricia Eyaefe, insisting that in that condition, nothing would have been done.
Prophet Eyaefe who spoke to Advocate at his church premises said ” that afternoon after the wedding in church, we came home, you know as a man of God, I was supposed to regularise my marriage, so after 8 years and with a growing ministry and five kids I decided to do the right thing, now see what has happened after the marriage” Prophet Eyaefe broke down in tears before going on.
“We were relaxing at home after the marriage in the night at about 7pm when she went to buy sachet water, and she had hardly left 5 minutes when I heard her screaming for help. I dashed down and she told me that a snake just sting her, I took her to the hospital that night and I tied the leg as someone instructed me. When we got t to the hospital, after paying one thousand naira to register, the doctor was not around, the nurse who was on duty had to call the doctor before he came and when he eventually arrived, they were looking at her as if her life is not important.
“The drugs he (the doctor) prescribed for me I went to buy it and when I came back, he insisted I should go back and get the dosage of the drug, all those time my wife was lying there without administering anything and when I came, they closed the rope I use in tying the leg, so that the venom will not spread and right there after administering the anti venom drug she still died. My wife died on the day I took her to the altar, I am bitter, they left her too long. It was a case of neglect , if they had acted quickly she would not have died. She died leaving 5 kids for me. How do I go on” he broke into tears again
However Dr John Akwara, the Chief Medical Director who reacted to Advocate on phone said there was little the doctor can do at that point ” look snake venoms kill within minutes, the doctor who treated her is a certified medical doctor with over ten years in service. Snake bite is Snake bite anywhere, five minutes you are gone. When I asked my doctor because I told you I was not on seat, though the clinic is my clinic, I asked him if the woman admitted it was snake bite, he said yes and did he administer the anti venom, he said yes, that the condition had even gotten worst before the anti venom came.
“We even applied oxygen on her that is to show how far the damage has gone. Once venom has reached the heart there is nothing anybody can do about it, even the man was asking for autopsy, let them pay and do it” Dr Akwara said, adding that there is spirituality in medicine ” why did the snake bite her after the wedding not before, there is what we call spirituality in medicine”
The tragic bride Mrs Patricia Eyaefe a mother of five, died from a snake bite just hours after she tied the knot last week Sunday in the mission road area of Sapele, Delta, an accident that has continue to generate comments from residents of the town.
