SCORES of persons, on Tuesday escaped death at one of the tank farms in Oghara, Ethiope East local government area of Delta State when one of the tankers filled with fuel was engulfed by fire sending huge balls of flame into the atmosphere.
The incident which happened on Tuesday evening at one of the tank farms located in the town led to people in the area scampering for safety while the inferno lasted.
One person was reported to have sustained life threatening burns from the incident and is said to be receiving medical attention at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara.
Though details of what led to the inferno could not be confirmed, an eye witness at the yard who spoke to Advocate, said the truck had finishing loading fuel and was exiting the premises when the driver apparently lost control.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “When the driver lost control, there was a spark on the tanker bucket which resulted to the fire that engulfed the tanker.
“It took the timely intervention of fire fighters from Pan-Ocean, Ovade to subdue the fire which was very visible from other parts of town.”
