I Hope in Christ Foundation, a non governmental and profitable organization, has awarded scholarship to over 40 underprivileged pupils of Izomo Primary School, Eruemukowharien in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta.
The pupils were also presented with complete sets of the school uniforms, books, school bags and other educational materials for their effective learning.
Addressing the pupils and some parents at the community town Hall, Patron of the NGO, Olorogun Edore Agbah said, “Today, I believe I Hope in Christ Foundation has the infrastructure and facilities hence I have to be their major sponsor and this would continue till Christ come.
“A lot of time, our people and other foundations think of giving scholarship to secondary schools students and university undergraduates only and my question is, if a child do not have the opportunity of going to primary school would that child had the chance of going secondary school or university? The answer is no.
“Most of the pupils we gave scholarship and other items to are the underprivileged, they are chased out of classes, drop out of schools every now and then just because of N800-N1,500, and some don’t have uniforms, bags, shoes.
“They don’t even have books to write on and these are children of the underprivileged, some of them do not have fathers and mothers. These are the children we need to catch first before secondary schools and I Hope in Christ Foundation has what it takes to do it.
The guest speaker of the event, SunnyBest Aghogho Omamofo in his presentation said, “Too many children cannot realize their dreams today in this community and live a full life due to high cost of education and the unfortunate consequences is that their live cannot be full.
“Education is more than reading and writing, it is one of the most important investment an individual, a community, state, country and indeed every society can undertake. it is about acquiring a skill for the betterment of the society.
Some of the viable options for encouraging education in this community is by supporting children at the primary and secondary school levels and providing scholarship to those in higher education in some selected disciplines.
Chairman of the occasion, Bro Jacob Ogbodu lauds the gesture of I Hope in Christ Foundation for coming to Izomo Primary school in Eruemukowharien community.
According to Ogbodu, We are happy today because our community primary school is located by this NGO and they identified with the underprivileged children who possibly are the leaders of tomorrow.
“What we are doing today is to ensure that our children could go to school because some are chased out of classes, school just like what happened to Success Adegor.
“Education is a key to a united community and these children would be relieved from the pressure of not having money, uniforms and books for school and I appeal to other NGOs to emulate I Hope in Christ Foundation to help the underprivileged children who are finding it difficult to study due to lack of fund”.
Chairman of the planing committee, Bro Zion Ojefia a physical challenge in his reaction thanked the leadership of the community for their reception and peaceful conduct.
“Our situation or condition should not stop us from helping the less privileged and bring them closer to God. My joy is that we have been able to raise the spirit of our children that have no hope of going to school again.
“Inasmuch as we can, we will not relent our effort in bringing succor to the underprivileged children in Urhobo nation and the society at large”.
