The parish priests of Nativity Catholic Church, Alegbo in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, Rev. Fr. The clergy who spoke with our Correspobdent’s recently in his office said, if anyone wants to survive and be free from the stress of the labour market in Nigeria, such person must be creative enough to create something for himself.
The Catholic priest noted that with the level of corruption in the system and self centred ness of our leaders, agricultural farming is the only way out. He decried the high level of unemployment in Nigeria, noting that being a graduate is not enough to put food on your table in the present Nigerian society.
In his words, ” our leaders have shut the doors of employment and the few available jobs are only meant for their children and some of their family members.” He said even as a priest, he is into agricultural farming. He said the country as it is needs our individaul contribution in order to be self sustainance in Nigeria.
He called on those waiting for white collar jobs to have a rethink as it may not rightly be available as and when it is needed.
He however called on government and all relevant agents to allow grants meant for agricultural farming to go to those it is meant for. He urged politicians not to hijacked or diverts such grants or loan.
The priest disclosed that there are a lot of foreign grants and soft loans for agriculture which is supposed to enhance agricultural farming but said such loans are not accessible by the real farmers or those who intend to go into farming.
He appealed to government to make it as a point of duty in preparing the minds of undergraduates and youths on farming in order to ease the task of unemployment in Nigeria.
