CCT: FG Files amended 18counts charges against Saraki

In continuation of the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, the Federal Government on Thursday filed fresh amended charges bringing charges against Saraki it to 18 counts.

In continuation of the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, the Federal Government on Thursday filed fresh amended charges bringing charges against Saraki it to 18 counts.

Saraki was re-arraigned on amended 18 counts, is accused of making false declaration, when he declared that he purchased a property at number 15A Macdonald Street Ikoyi, Lagos through his company Carlisle Properties Limited in 2003, but the property in dispute, was actually sold to G and C Real Estates Properties and Investment Company limited for 12million Naira.

 

In the new charges, the Senate President He is also accused of making false declaration that he acquired the properties through sales of agricultural commodities, when it was purchased using a loan from a commercial bank.

However, the Senate President pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

 

The Trial has continued with an investigator from the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Samuel Madojemu, the Head of Investigation Department in the Code of Conduct Bureau.

 

Mr. Madojemu, who was testifying as the third prosecution witness told the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Thursday, that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, while being Governor of Kwara State, made cash lodgment of N77m in his account in September 2007.

 

Madojemu, who is the Head, Intelligence Unit of the CCB, said as of the time when the N77m cash lodgments were made on September 5, 2007, Saraki’s monthly salary as governor was N254, 412.25 monthly.

 

The prosecution alleged that the sum of N77m was not fairly attributable to his “income, gifts or loan approved by the Code of Conduct for Public Officers”.
