The Commandant General, Riverine Security (Coast-Guard of the Federation) Commander Bibi Oduku has commended the efforts of the security agencies in tackling security challenges affecting the riverine communities in country especially in the Niger Delta region.
He noted that the sustained efforts of the Joint Task Force(JTF) operation Crocodile Smile has ensured peace in the Niger Delta region and has helped to check kidnapping, militancy, sea-piracy, illegal oil bunkering activities and other criminal activities in the area.
Bibi while addressing newsmen at Warri, stated that Riverine Security (Coast-Guard of the Federation) has lunched modern instruments use in detecting damage pipelines and recording activities around pipelines and water-ways, to check criminal activities around national assets.
He added that the security outfits has the needed capacity and human recourse to check the threats to national oil and gas installations, by fighting illegal oil bunkers, pipeline vandalism, sea-piracy and kidnappings, if fully engaged by the authority.
Bibi decried the activities of oil bunker which he says has not only affected our economy negatively, but also has devastated our environments.
He added that Riverine Security (Coast-Guard of the Federation) have officers in Awka-Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and Ondo and other parts of the country that to support the effort of security agencies in checking crime.
Commander Bibi advised youths not to get involve criminal activities and stop destroying the country’s national assets for their selfish interest, while appealing to the federal government and state governments to be committed to the development of Niger Delta region.
