Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) has been
told to borrow honesty and transparency from the recently concluded Ekiti State election in conducting the October 25 Local Government election in the State in the interest of free and fair election and for the purpose of true democracy.
This statement was made in Ughelli by a chairmanship hopeful for Ughelli North Local Government, Elder Francis Onakpofure aka Hope-in-God, while speaking with our correspondent.
Elder Francis Onakpofure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) stated that the election should not be seen as a do-or-die affair but like a sports game that should be accepted in good faith if defeated especially when honesty and transparency is applied in the conduct of the election.
According to him, litigation of election arises after election owing to irregularities and this hampers the delivery of dividends of democracy.
“The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and DSIEC should ensure the credibility of elections they conduct.
“As for the Ekiti election, we should not forget that it was conducted by an APC government and the election has been judged to free and fair with the Governor, accepting the result as the wish of the people, that goes to show the true reflection of the APC as a party,” he added.
