Fear grips the people of Egwedhe Community in Ozoro Kingdom in Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State, following the brutal killing of Mr. Otete Victory recently by a suspected cultist group from Ashaka and Ushie communities.
Speaking to newsmen over the sad incident, the Oletulogbo of the community, Mr. Bright Ararobe said the victim with his wife Mrs. Josephine went to farm situated at Ogubo which shares boundary with the Government General Hospital Ashaka but some members of Awagi family allegedly led by one Emeka stormed the farm with dangerous weapons.
He added that the deceased and his wife were held hostage, but later the wife was released living her husband who engaged the intruder in a combat leading to a member of the gang sustaining serious injury, but he was ambushed and shoot dead while trying to escape.
Ararobe stated further that one of the suspects, Mr Obiechine Awaji has been arrested and he is helping police in their investigation; however attempt to confirm this from the police authority as of press time was not successful.
Condemning the killing, a prominent community leader Chief Fredrick Ikpawona call on the Inspector General of Police and the state government to immediate action in resolving the various lingering land dispute in the state to enable its citizens have peace.
Another source who pleaded for anonymity stated that youths from the area are boiling for action if nothing urgent is done to assuage their feeling over the coldblooded killing of their kinsman.
The source added that the present crisis of who owns the land in dispute; may not be unconnected to the alleged discovering of a new oil well in the area.
