It would be recalled that shopping mall which was formally Woodbridge Hotel, located at Effurun, Uvwie local government area, owned by a People Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Chief Kenneth Gbagi was shut down by the immediate past administration over safety issues.

Meanwhile, many observers frowned at Okowa’s decision to give Gbagi the nod to turn the once abandoned hotel premises into shopping mall and Petrol station, describing the governor actions as playing politics with the lives of Delta.

Expressing his displeasure, an Uvwie resident, Comrade Emoni Onovugheakpo, stated that the newly commissioned Robinson Gbagi Mall and Petrol Station, is a disaster waiting to happen.

According to him; “Okowa is becoming desperate, and desperation only lead to disaster, if not, how can you justify a Governor of a staff, out of political exigency blindly endorse what is obviously calamitous to his people?

“I can assure you that this dance on the grave of Deltans will not last long, today we all have collective endorsed the institutionalization of what will cause us all pains in a very near future.”

“Okowa might have done his bits by compromising the safety of Deltans as compensation to Chief Gbagi for his financial support during the 2015 governorship election, and to retain him ahead of 2019. But Deltans will someday pay the prize of this unholy alliance,” he added.

Governor Okowa while at the commissioning ceremony of Robinson Gbagi Mall and Petrol Station at Effurun, stated that the good days are back again for Uvwie, Warri and environs as the people have not only embraced peace but, are encouraging investors to the area.

He observed that the location of Effurun and Warri has made the twin city to be economic nerve centre of the state and commended the traditional ruler of Uvwie, HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I for ensuring that his subjects imbibed peace.

“Uvwie is positioned to be the most commercial centre in Delta State, our youths should continue to maintain peace and be receptive of visitors, peace, friendly environment, attracts investors and with such, jobs are created for the youths and the area will continue to witnessed growth,” the Governor said.

While congratulating Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, Chairman, Falcon Bay Energy limited, for constructing the shopping mall urged traditional rulers, youths and all Deltans to continue partnering and supporting his administration, asserting, “We will continue to remain proactive and accountable to the people.”

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Edwin Clarke commended Governor Okowa’s administration for creating the enabling environment for economic activities to thrive in the state and called for continuous peace and unity in the Effurun and Warri axis of the state for industrialists to return to the area.

HRM Abe I, also, used the occasion mark his birthday and expressed joy that Uvwie is peaceful and always ready to welcome investors while Olorogun Gbagi thanked Governor Okowa for creating the enabling environment for socio-economic activities to witness a boom in the state.
