A renowned Economist and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Prof. Pat Utomi has challenged Deltans to leave their comfort zone and collectively come together and take up the responsibility of rescuing Delta State from its current misery.

Prof. Pat Utomi flanked by Chief George Okafor, APC Vice Chairman Delta North and the State Secretary, Mr Chidi Okonji, and other party leaders from Delta North during Utomi’s consultative visit to them at Asaba.

Prof. Utomi, whom various groups have called on to run for Governor of Delta State, stated this during his consultative meeting with Delta North APC party leaders at Asaba, on Sunday, said that going through Delta, what you see is misery starring at the faces of the people, and that the time for change is now.

He noted that a close observation of Deltans have revealed that many have be groaning and waiting for a new birth which will bring about transformation to the state which has suffered years of inept leadership that has failed to harness the great potentials that abound in Delta.

Utomi, added that the waiting of Deltans may not be too long because God has plans for the state and that, “part of God’s plan is to wipe away shame from us, because we live in misery, misery define our state, but we have hope that this state will change.”

He stated further that, “it was that hope that we can collectively make great difference in our state, if we put our mind to it, believing that if we all agree together, we can change bad governance in Delta and create a better future for our state.”

“So, I say to you that it’s time for Deltans to arise and take responsibility of what becomes the state.”, adding that it’s expected that every generation must make its shoulder available for the next generation to stand on, noting that if the present generation of Deltans continues to remain indifferent to the poor situations in Delta, the next generation may curse them.

Prof. Utomi stated further that when you compare the level of development going on in Edo and Anambra state, you will be ashamed as a Deltan, considering the fact that what both states gets from Federal allocation is about 1/7 of that of Delta, yet they have better infrastructure.

He explained that in the past, Deltans were quick to accept the unacceptable as governance, but looking at the reality on ground, Deltans must arise and take back their state by electing persons with character, competence and courage to redesign a new Delta.

Utomi stated also that what Deltans are tolerating as governance, can only be tolerated in asylums in civilized clime; adding that APC has come to offer Deltans a new deal which will bring hope to the present misery in the state.
